About THRIVE
THRIVE in Port Arthur is a community environmental justice initiative addressing key issues facing citizens in this region:
Improve air quality (reductions in conventional air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions)
Provide strategic job training, and job placement
Build resilience to floods, power outages, and other impacts of climate change, especially for the most vulnerable community members
Enhance nature-based infrastructure and improve community infrastructure
Advance access to clean, low-cost power
Increase available and affordable safe, sustainable transportation
Improve mental and physical health
Create and increase housing opportunities
Montrose Green Infrastructure: This project will improve coastal resilience in particularly vulnerable neighborhoods of Port Arthur with an emphasis on green infrastructure and nature-based solutions
EQUIP PA: Our goal is to design a new, proactive, and equity-informed resilience plan aimed at protecting everyone, especially vulnerable residents
Solar for Safety & Success (3S): Collectively, we will create a community-led plan to locate solar and battery storage at local buildings in low-income neighborhoods to allow the facilities to serve as emergency shelters
